With more than 4 million Australians living with disability, having just one day to explore the range of stories from all over the country is just not enough.
And that's why the ABC is partnering with International Day of People with Disability in a three-week campaign to showcase a range of stories by and about people with disability across ABC websites, radio, social media, TV, and iview.
December 3 is the United Nations' International Day for People with Disability (IDPwD), a day to increase awareness, understanding, and acceptance of people with disability.
From November 19 to December 10, the ABC is featuring content created by and for people with disability, with stories exploring the serious issues like housing affordability and access for people with disability, and the lighter side of life — like why one woman wrote a love letter to her disability.
Building on the success of 2020's public call-out for story ideas, the ABC again asked for content makers with disability to pitch their story ideas.
More than a thousand people pitched ideas, from written articles to short films, social media campaigns to radio audio series, and many of these will be featured across the three week campaign and beyond.
Re-Frame is coming back once again, showcasing more films by people with disability. Catch it on ABC TV on December 3, or watch it on iview, where you can also find a collection of TV shows, comedy, and documentaries on topics of disability.
You will hear guest co-hosts and segments across all ABC radio stations, including ABC Classic, Radio National, triple j, Radio Australia, and ABC Kids Listen, as well as ABC local radio stations across the country.
Download the ABC Listen app to find all of the best live radio, podcasts, and series in the one spot. And all radio programs are available for playback online after broadcast. Transcripts will be available online for people with hearing issues.
You can also have a bop with ABC radio's Spotify playlist featuring artists with disability.
Bookmark this page as we will publish links to IDPwD content as it becomes available over the next few weeks.
